First 2 items for the year challenge

Hi fellow challengees.

What a great idea this is - to join together and blog about the garments we sew to build our own "sewn by me" wardrobe.

Thanks to Vita and Natalea for this invitation.

I have just finished my first 2 garments for this challenge. They go together as a suit. I have been sewing for about a year and a half now and slowly getting my skills up to where I am proud to go out in public with my sewn by me clothes so this challenge is really timely for me.

My first item is the StyleArc Marni Jacket. My inexperience in sewing can be seen on this post - with all the trials and tribulations of trying to put a sleeve on a jacket.

This is a great pattern and I would recommend it. It is recommended for a Ponte Knit which is what I have used.

The second item is the dress I am wearing with the jacket. It is fast becoming a TNT for me. It is easy to whip up and I am getting the fit right. It is McCalls 2401. It is a sheath dress - however my alterations have made it more of a shift.

Here is the suit together.

If you are interested in seeing the journey to my TNT - Check it out on my blog

I look forward to going on this journey with everyone and seeing what items you sew for your wardrobe.

Happy Sewing
Beverley (aka BeaJay)

  1. Wow! What a sharp looking suit! Love the color on you and the fit is fabulous! Very, very nice work!

  2. You look awesome!!! I can't believe you've only been sewing for a year and a half. You ladies are making me so excited with your awesome posts!!

  3. I've read your trials and tribulations post on your blog- but Beverley, you are actually very good at sewing - your outfit looks superb. Your one and a half years has been well spent. The jacket looks lovely on you over the slim skirt - gives you a nice shape. And colour, as already mentioned, fantastic.

  4. Beverley,

What a great job you've done! My favorite comment in your post is the one about your pride in going public in "me-made" garments. Kudos to you for loving your creations and showcasing them in public. I think the Marni jacket is a great style for you, too! Again, you've done a great job, and I'm excited about your enthusiasm! Cheering you on...!

  5. You are doing great Beverly! In your year and a half sewing you've accomplished a lot! keep up the good work!

  6. Are you kidding -- the jacket and dress look good on you. Every project is a learning opportunity - for the sewist and her audience. What I have learned through you is to continue to plow forward in spite of what we personally think about our current skills. I think you did a splendid job.

  7. Beverly, your outfit look fabulous and it makes YOU look fabulous. You should be proud!
