This blog hosts a challenge for home sewers who want to commit to sewing their own wardrobe (or certain parts of your wardrobe :-). Our goal is to not purchase RTW clothing from January 1, 2015 thru December 31, 2015. Follow our journey as we share and encourage each other through tips, tutorials, and various challenges. Thanks for dropping by!

Are You Up for the Challenge...(Repost)
Beginning April 1, 2013, we will begin a year long journey of home sewing! We're committing to not purchasing clothing for one year. Instead, we will build our wardrobe by making it ourselves....
Challenging? YES
Impossible? NO!!
Join us.... Leave a comment and your email if you're interested. We'll even invite you to author posts, share techniques, review sewing books, and display your efforts along the way.
Look for challenges in the coming weeks to help you get ready to take your sewing skills to the next level. More later....
P.S. I'm working on turning this image into our button for the challenge....Vita

ReplyDeletelove the button! I have seen where there just wasn't a button for challenges I've just saved the picture, added it to my side bar & put the link in, & it goes right to the sight when you click the picture, a few extra litttle steps but it works, but I know you will figure this button thing out, you can do it!

Hello, I like the button as well - may take me a while to work out how to insert it, but no doubt I'll find out on the internet somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI love the button. And I am so glad that I joined this challenge - it has re-invigorated my sewing. I was in a bit of a rut.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to do the challenge - but here's the problem - I am a QUILTER and have practically zero experience sewing clothing! Am I out of my mind to do this? Seeking advice.

Hi Rachel,
DeleteMy answer would be, "join us...and do what you can!" This falls in the realm of the advice I give my classes when I teach:
1. Do what you can...
2. Celebrate what you do...
3. Maintain a "guilt-free" zone!
That's my two cents. Start basic.... Maybe you could choose only one area of sewing this year and grow in your experience. For example, this year make all of your skirts (and choose not to by RTW skirts) or something along those lines. Anyway, I look forward to hearing what you decide! Vita
Ok,Vita! I'm in!email is rachelhershberg@gmail.com. If I can pull this off, I will learn a ton this year!
DeletePlease include me in on this challenge. It is just what I need.
ReplyDeleteWonderful to hear you're joining us Sandy! Please post an email address and I will invite you to author posts as well. Enjoy the journey! Vita
DeleteHi Vita

I'm turning 50 in April. I have raised 10 kids on a budget, which included using my studies in fashion design to "upcycle" lots of second-hand finds. This challange is exciting, as I am working on weight loss/better fitness at the same time. Looking forward to the group experience!
ReplyDeleteHi Miriam! We are looking forward to having you, too! Your sewing experience should encourage all of us! Please send me an email address and I can formally invite you into the blog to author posts. Have fun....Vita
DeleteI'm a little nervous, but I want to join the challenge as well. I rarely make things for myself and I set a goal this year to sew more for myself. So I'm hoping making a commitment like this will help me stay on track. I love seeing what others are making too! So much inspiration.

DeleteHello ladies,I've just come across this site and am impressed.
ReplyDeleteI realise I'm late to the party, but I would love to join in the challenge if you're happy to have someone from "downunder". My email is sherry7 at tpg dot com dot au. I do have a blog (http://janines-sewingspree.blogspot.com.au/)but have to admit, I'm a shocker at keeping it updated.
Janine

ReplyDeleteI am 40+ rather than 50+, and I know we are already in August...but I would love to join in if possible. Am I too late?
