Help & Advice Please

I forget what this fabric is called but I do know it's very pricey but when Hancock's had it on a clearance table for less than $4 a yard I had to get some, the charcoal is not showing it's true color, blame it on the lights, blame it on the camera I dunno but it's a dark charcoal, after watching this fabric come & go in so many delicious colors through the years, with this price I decided to go for it, but now that I have it, I'm kinda scared of it lol! I'm pretty sure once you cut whatever  sleeves & hems are pretty much taken care of, but what about the waist of a skirt or a neckline, surely you wouldn't  just turn it with all those ripples so can you help me or are you scared too? lol!

  1. Hey Helen,
I actually have the same fabric in a light pink color. I remember looking at it wondering what in the heck I was going to make with such a busy fabric. I ended up finding a really simple blouse pattern. Unfortunately, I cant sho it to you because it is an UFO. I can't imagine finding anywhere else on my body this fabric would look flattering. Good luck!!

    2. LOL. Helen, you must have forgotten my blog name is the Fearless Seamstress, lol. Fear is not the problem. I am going to blame it on my attention span. I move from project to project without finishing the previous project. I'm definitely working on managing that better. Hehehe

  3. I have a friend with a (ready made) top made of this fabric. The frills are diagonal and the neck and sleeve are finished with what looks to my untrained eye like bias tape, same color.

    What does UFO mean?

  4. Hi Helen! I made a sleeveless cowl-neck top out of fabric like that and found if you plan ahead and cut within the ruffles, you'll be fine. I matched the ruffles at the sides and simply turned the seam in at the neckline and it's 'hidden' in the layers of the cowl. It's one of my favorite tops to wear as the fabric is so soft and comfortable..... though in hindsight wish I'd chosen a different color than 'hot pink' as that is really not 'me'. If you want to see my top.... this is the blog post I wrote explaining how I worked with the fabric. http://pieceworktreasures.blogspot.com/2013/03/a-new-outfit-for-this-week.html I also made a cute scarf for my daughter out of the remnants. Good Luck!

  5. I have a RTW top made of this fabric and the neck is trimmed in fold over elastic in the same color. I remember they had a sample shirt made with this type of fabric last year at Joann, it had a facing at the neckline and was top stitched very close to the edge. Isn't this just called cascading ruffle fabric...I have heard some call it eyelash fabric too.
