CHALLENGE 1: Let's get organized

Hi Sewers,

As 2012 ends, let's take some steps to prepare for the project ahead....

1. Inventory all of your fabric and pattern stashes.

2. Store your patterns in categories and work out how you'll organize them.

3. Organize your fabrics, too.  How will you store it? This is a great time to work out storage issues.  The next challenge will focus more on this detail.

4. Purge your stash of any patterns and fabric you KNOW you won't use (donate them to other sewers, thrift stores, or kids learning to sew)

5. Share with the group how you did.  How much fabric do you have (for slacks, skirts, dresses, suiting)?

That's it for now.  Complete the challenge by Saturday, January 5, 2013

  2. So um, how many patterns is it common to own? I have two commercial patterns and the muslins from two dress bodices and a sleeve. Hardly enough to discuss organizing!

  3. Hi Mackenzie, it varies from person to person. I enjoy a wide range of clothing so I personally own 79 patterns.

  4. I think I'd be hard-pressed to think of 79 articles of clothing for which a pattern would make sense, since most skirts don't need them.

  5. Good morning Mackenzie. I would be too if I wore the same skirt everyday for two years. :) If you are for real, and I have a hard time believing you are, I think that you would greatly benefit from this challenge. It will give you a chance to dig a little further into your creativity to make more current garments and to learn something from the other lovely ladies who plans to take the time out to enjoy each other and share some of their construction techniques. If you would like to join, please provide an email address. Enjoy the remainder of your day.
