Snoop Shop & Knock it Off Challenge

Soooooooooo...I went to the mall today.  Before you shake your head, let me explain!  The bra situation has become critical, as in random-metal-underwire-poking-me-in-the-boob critical.  I've patched it so much that the patches need patching.  Yeah.  That bad.

Anyway, while walking through the department store, I looked at the outfits on display and thought about the time I went snoop shopping for cocktail dresses (blogged here).  Since then, I've gone snoop shopping two other times, but not recently. I learned so much from this adventure that I find it more fun than shopping. I had a chance to analyze the style lines of each dress, check out finishing techniques, and actually "try on the pattern" to see if it's a style that suits my body.

So I thought I'd pose an idea to the fine fashionistas who've signed onto this challenge.  How about we snoop shop for a dress, outfit, or look, share it here and then try to knock it off?  We can agree to dates, times, and all that good stuff later.

Thoughts?

  6. I'm lazy--I shop by internet. It saves time, fuel and there is more for a BBW to choose from. I keep a document file of styles/clothing I like--it's at least 30 pages. Right now I'm feening for textured fabrics. I'm in.

  7. I'm in that situation right now trying to decide how I want to put my twist on an outfit that caught my eye. Like Robin, most of my shopping/browsing is on the internet. Therefore, count me in.

  8. Haha, I love looking in shop windows and figuring out how the fabric was cut and fitted together, Even my darling boyfriend knows that if I stop in the middle of a street to stare into a window that it's not my desire to buy but to *know*. Yes, I really am a terrible snoop shopper. Love the term btw!

  9. Hi L, just wondering if you managed to find your bra, or if you got sidetracked by this delicious idea? I'm in, but where I live there is not much inspiration, so I'll find ideas on Style.com.

    1. LOL. I bought two bras and just tried them on today. One is definitely going back because it's too tight in all the wrong places. The other one will probably go back as well. It fits and isn't too tight, but all the support is in the shoulders instead of the band. The best bra store in this area closed a few years ago and I haven't found a good bra since. I might have to look online or take the dive into making my own. I have the material but have been putting it off for way too long.

    2. So annoying -it is so difficult to find decent bras, I've almost given up too. Yes, the bra that supports from the shoulder will have to go - you'll get a really sore neck and back from that. Good luck

  12. Great idea. We don't have much to inspire, locally, but there's always the internet or an excuse to look further afield. Count me in.

  13. Look out now! I'm glad to see that everyone is excited about doing this; I am too! I have one more week before finals and then I'll have some free time to visit the mall. I'm looking for dresses and outfits that I can sew for summer.

I was thinking we could snoop around (take/post pictures), blog about it here or link to our personal blogs, select a garment/look to knock off, add pattern, fabric, sew, and conclude. This doesn't have to be too structured. Maybe this is something that can be ongoing or seasonal.

    I am so in!

  14. Love this idea. Do we need to go to the shops or can we snoop on the internet?? Like Robin - I tend to do my shopping online.
